John Carl Palladino, 91 of Monroe Township, NJ formerly of West New York, NJ devoted husband to Lois Joan Hirsch for 68 amazing years, father of John C. Palladino, Teresa B. Fortin (deceased), and Regina J. Castronuova, passed away peacefully with his children by his side, Thursday, March 28th.
Predeceased by his daughter, Teresa B. Fortin, and his extraordinary incredible wife Lois J. Palladino. He is survived by his son, John C. Palladino, (and his partner Sandy Woodward) and his daughter Regina J. Castronuova (and her husband Peter), as well as his grandchildren: Robert J. Fortin, Audrey F. Palladino, John C. Palladino and wife Ashley, Sara J. Castronuova, Stephen W. Palladino, and Peter L. Castronuova. John will be greatly missed by all who love him.
Born at home on 12.16.1932 (West New York, NJ) to Carl and Clara Palladino in West New York, NJ. He was the oldest of three children and attended Memorial High School in West New York, NJ. John served in the US Navy from Feb. 1952 – Dec. 1955 during the Korean War (USS Tanner). While serving in the Navy his ship traveled to the Arctic Circle twice. His ship also travelled to Cuba. John was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia. John worked with the Geographical Surveys on the Ship. On occasion John’s ship would dock in the Brooklyn and Norfolk Navy Yard, when his ship was docked, he would catch a ride to surprise his wife, Lois. John left the United States Navy Reserve with an Honorable Discharge February 1960.
After leaving the Navy John started his own Woman’s Lace Embroidery business in Weehawken NJ. His career continued in the Dairy field for White House Dairies and Clinton Milk in Newark, NJ for many years till he retired. He was a Member of Local 860. Periodically, he would encounter NY Yankee’s Phil Rizzuto and Joe Pepitone.
John also worked at Toms Ford, Keyport, NJ for 20 years, where he made many friends.
John along with wife Lois volunteered his time for many years raising funds to support St. Benedicts Roman Catholic Church and St. John Vianney of Holmdel, NJ. Charter Member of the Holy Name Society with St. Benedict’s. He also was a Christian Counselor with the Boy Scouts of America for the Ad Altare Dei Medal. John also attended many of his High School class reunions with his wife and friends.
John enjoyed going to NYC with his family to see a Yankee, Jet game, Musicals on Broadway and enjoy a great meal at some French and Italian restaurants. John loved his Pizza, rum baba’s, chocolate chip cookies and cheesecake. He grew to accept his children’s pets (many dogs, cats, fish and even a horse!). John was a Hard-working, patient, proud, supportive, devoted, respectful, gentleman who loved his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. One of His biggest accomplishments was celebrating with his wife and children with a trip to Hawaii.
John was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Colts Neck, NJ.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 2nd, 9:30 am – 11:30 am at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:30 pm at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck. Burial Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, John and Lois felt strongly about the charity.
