John H. Kahle, 83, of West Long Branch passed away Thursday, Nov. 26th at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in Long Branch and moved to West Long Branch in 1950. A 1944 graduate of Long Branch High School. Following High School Mr. Kahle enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with the amphibious forces in the Chinese and Japanese areas in World War II. In 1946 he was honorable discharged from the Navy and enrolled in Rutgers University. In 1950 he graduated with his B.S. in Education. In 1952 he was awarded his Master's Degree from Columbia University, N.Y.C. Mr. Kahle began his teaching career at Long Branch High School in 1952, where he was a teacher, coach and retired as Athletic Director retiring in 1992. In 1994 he was honored by the Board of Education when they dedicated the Softball field, as the John H. Kahle Athletic Field. He was an active member of the Long Branch Green and White Association. Mr. Kahle was an exempt member of Borough Chemical and Hose Co. #1, of the West Long Branch Fire Department. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Mr. Kahle was active in the church serving as Treasurer, director of Sunday school, Men's Fellowship and organizing the food pantry. He was pre-deceased by his wife Elizabeth 'Betty' Tallmadge Kahle, in 2003. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John and Ellynn Kahle, Oceanport; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Richard Hansen, Wall Twp., Denise and Edward Mitchell, Wall Twp., Virginia and Douglas Reynolds, Huntsville, Alabama; sister and brother-in-law Eleanor and William McComas, Brick Twp; eight grandchildren, Brian Hansen, Eric Hansen, Kate and Ryan Marlowe, Christopher Mitchell, Kelly Mitchell, Justin Kahle, Colleen Kahle, and Stephen Kahle. Visitation will be Monday Nov. 30th 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St. at Broadway, Long Branch. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 1, 11:00 AM at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Broadway and Washington St. , Long Branch. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
