John J. Caracappa, Sr., 85, of Marlboro, died on Friday, December 13.
John was born in Staten Island, NY to the late Helen and Michael Caracappa. He was raised in Manhattan and graduated from Seward High School. John attended Brooklyn College before serving his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He and his wife began their family in Staten Island and finally moved to Marlboro to be closer to his children 26 years ago. John owned a truck driving business for most of his life before retiring.
John enjoyed art, gardening, collecting coins, cars, and jewelry. What he loved most was spending time with his family, especially during the holidays.
John was a tough, but loving and generous man.
He is predeceased by his parents, and his siblings Philip Caracappa and Helen Bonacorsi.
Surviving is his loving wife, Maria Caracappa, his children Karen and her husband Thomas Mondello of Brick, John and his wife Jeanine Caracappa of Marlboro, and Michael and his wife Suzanne Caracappa of Freehold, his siblings Michael Caracappa, Gussie Discenza, and Barbara Chirichella, his eight grandchildren Jaclyn, Samantha, Thomas, John, Julia, Olivia, Macayla, and Michael, and three great-grandchildren Jack, Leo, and Lilly.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 17 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, December 18 at 11am at St. Gabriel’s Historic Church, 549 County Road 520, Marlboro. Entombment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro.
