It is with great sadness that the family of John T. Coyne announces his peaceful passing at the age of 89.
He was a loving husband of 60 years to Joan (Agnese) and wonderful father to Karen (Veralli), Jennifer and Valerie (Yarborough) and father-in-law to Glenn and Frank.
John was blessed with 4 grandchildren: Taylor, Gillian, John and Madison all of whom he adored. He also shared a loving relationship with his niece Patricia (Shea).
John was born in the Bronx, New York to Patrick and Delia Coyne and was a caring brother to Marie (Rodgers) Joan (Tubridy) and Patrick (all deceased).
Upon graduation from Fordham University, where he studied business and accounting, John went to work for Texaco as an Auditor. He then met his wife Joan and relocated to Long Island where he would raise his family. After leaving Texaco John worked for the State University of New York at Farmingdale where he would remain until retiring after 26 years. He was Associate Vice President of Administration. He also earned his MBA at night from CW Post College (Long Island University) as well as being a Certified Internal Auditor.
John could be found on the campus racquetball court almost daily. The only exception he made was when he would sneak off to his favorite lunch spot Annabella’s, where he was a regular.
John was known for his integrity and strong work ethic, which was the key to his success both professionally and personally. He was loved by most throughout his long life. His dry sense of humor and kindness will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
John continued to serve his community during retirement as well as taking time to enjoy his hobbies including making stained glass, playing racquetball, golf and tennis but throughout his life his most important priority was spending time with his loving family who will miss him dearly.
