Joseph Frank DiMare, 70, of Fort Lauderdale By The Sea, Florida, died peacefully at home with family by his side on Wednesday, June 12.

He was born February 25, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of late Lucy and Santo DiMare. He was a beloved son, caring brother, loyal friend, incredible father and adoring grandfather. He is survived by his former wife Linda DiMare, who he married on December 14, 1975. They moved to Holmdel, New Jersey where they raised their four children. Joe was a successful entrepreneur who was passionate about basketball and music, especially the guitar. He was most devoted to fatherhood, often coaching his children’s teams, instilling a strong work ethic and inspiring them to follow their heart. Joe lived a fulfilling life and treasured being Pop Pop to his beautiful grandchildren. He is survived by his best friend, Bobby Napolitano, and his companion, Linda Mercandante.

He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Joe will always be remembered as a strong, genuine person with a kind and generous heart. He leaves us all a legacy of love.

He is survived by his brother, Dominic DiMare, and sister and husband, Lucille and Scott Whitlock; his first son and wife, Joseph and Natasha DiMare, his second son and wife, Christian and Sarah DiMare, his daughter, Danielle DiMare, his third son and wife, Justin and Liliana DiMare; and his nine grandchildren, Luca, Leonardo, Mateo, Jackson, Liv, Paolo, Levi, Santiago and DiMare baby on the way.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Holmdel Funeral Home in Holmdel, New Jersey from 2 – 4pm and 6 – 9pm. The burial will take place on Saturday, June 15 at 10:30am at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Joe’s name to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org. Growing up in Brooklyn directly across the street from Joey was a fond memory. We both loved Mickey Mantle and tried imitating him running around the bases. Although Joey was 4 years older than me, he would let me play some stick ball and slap ball with him and some of his buddies. I guess I was a pretty decent ballplayer or Joey was just too much of a great guy. Growing up in Brooklyn meant there were quite a few Vinny's around, So he gave me the nickname, Vinny Red. Miss you, Joey.

We called him Uncle Joe , from South Leisure #203 and Montreal We’ve only known Uncle Joe for approx. 5 yrs but it seems we’ve known all our lives Uncle Joe will be missed dearly. Until Tuesday evening, I had only had the pleasure of knowing Danielle in this big DiMare family. If I judge Joseph by what I know of Danielle, then he was a big-hearted, generous and loving father. My thoughts are with your family through this time of loss.
