A Ranney Parent left a message on January 30, 2009:
To the friends and family of Mr. Joe, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy in your loss. Mr. Joe was a pleasure around campus - always helping my son out of the car - looking out for him crossing the campus - always with a smile and a few pleasant words. He was very polite, very nice, and will be very much missed. I am sorry. God Bless you all.
Robert O'Shea left a message on January 29, 2009:
My Best Friend Joe – Who knew when we meet over 15 years ago signing our daughters Katie and Nicole up for Indian Princesses that us and our families would become such great friends. So many memories are passing through my head from Flying Fish starting the sacred fire or awarding the purple feather on camping trips, to the first ever Jaguar game, to those incredible gag gifts we all treasured so much at Christmas. Thank you Joe for welcoming the O’Shea’s into your family. We Love you guys. By the way Joe, Big Dad will be wearing that Giants construction hat Sunday and I know you’ll be cheering along in heaven. Love, Bob O’Shea and Family.
Gaye Nicholson left a message on January 27, 2009:
My son Max (6) asked me one day last week while waiting for our daughter at pick-up time if we could throw a rope up to Joe in heaven and bring him back. He really misses Joe calling him Max-Man and giving Joe a goldfish and talking about Santa and Joe's direct link to the North Pole on his walkie talkie. He also wants to make sure Joe is warm enough sitting up there on the clouds when he watches the Giants in the Super Bowl next Sunday. He really misses Joe. We all do! He was a great man with a wonderful heart that will live on forever. Sincerely, Gaye Nicholson
Dave and Maureen Holt left a message on January 27, 2009:
Joe: We will both miss you very much. Your sense of humor, and teasing always changed a simple visit into a great time. Dave will particulary miss you on the golf course, your patience was incredible. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Love, Dave and Maureen
The Granata Family left a message on January 23, 2009:
Mr. Joe was a wonderful, friendly man who will be missed. The Ranney community just won't be the same without him. He was always available to help you out when you needed something. The grounds of the campus this year were spectacular. I had never seen so many mums! God bless Mr. Joe's family and friends for their loss.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
Mimi Keenan left a message on January 22, 2009:
As I think of Joe, I will remember him as always being outside somewhere on the Ranney campus, never idle, zipping from one corner to another on a cart, keeping our kids safe during drop- off and pick-up (often at this own risk), patiently watering hundreds of freshly planted mums (confident that they would grow), pruning trees, cutting the lawns - making the grounds beautiful for us all. He brought beauty with his smile, his humor, and his love of the children who trusted him without doubt. A good man who will be missed very much.
Jeannette Hernandez-Cordero left a message on January 22, 2009:
I just learned this morning that Joe passed away as I was walking into my office. Joe and I sometimes did bus duty in the mornings at Ranney School. As the Spanish teacher for the Lower School we used to play jokes in his Spanish, and we also enjoyed talking about my terrible gardening skills! His last amazing landscaping job was during this last fall. The school was full of "mums" and the Halloween parade was so colorful thanks to his wonderful touch. To all of his family and relatives, my deepest sympathy. We'll miss him in Ranney School.
Briggs Family left a message on January 22, 2009:
My boys and I will miss Joe's smiling face at parent pickup. He managed to keep things going despite the craziness of three lanes of hurried parents driving large cars. He could help a car extricate itself from the far inner lane without a scrape--and do it with a smile. Ranney will miss Joe, his dependability, his humor, and his guidance very much.
Dan Berlinger left a message on January 22, 2009:
RIP Joe, you always provided memerable humor.
Carole Fennelly Klein left a message on January 22, 2009:
As others have said, Joe was a fixture at Ranney, keeping everyone moving along with good humor and occasional exasperation at parent pickup. It was probably easier to coach a game than deal with the "Ranneyland Derby", but Joe never lost his cool. He will be greatly missed!
Katie O'Shea left a message on January 22, 2009:
Joe will be missed by all. He was an amazing man! He could always find that perfect gag gift for anyone. He was like an uncle to me. My family and I are going to miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with Nicole, Matt, Barbara, and Beverly. I will always remember his remarkable fire work shows and his jolly laugh. All of those amazing memories from Indian Princesses. Flying Fish you made those camping trips so much fun. Little White Dove will always love you and miss you!
Terrill Hiel left a message on January 22, 2009:

Tish Fox left a message on January 22, 2009:
Joe - such an untimely departure. You are missed so much by the entire Ranney community. There are many sad faces today - however, many warm memories of your sense of humor and the laughs you provided here. My deepest condolences to the entire Orio and Cooley families. In these dark times you only see one set of footprints, it is now that God is carrying you.
Jackie Walsh left a message on January 22, 2009:
I'm so sad to hear that Joe has died. I remember him mostly from 7th and 8th grade. I was a basketball cheerleader; he was a basketball player. I remember him being such a nice guy on the bus rides coming back from the away games. I was a shy kid and he was one of the boys who was just a nice friend.
Trish Saemann left a message on January 21, 2009:

I am a student at the Ranney School where Joe Orio worked. Joe Orio was one of the funniest, cheerful, and happy guys I have ever known. May his memory be eternal. On behalf of the entire Ranney School 2008 Senior Class who knew and loved "Joe," may he Rest In Peace.
Tom Gavin & Family left a message on January 21, 2009:
My children and I are greatly saddened to learn of Joe's passing. We all admired his terrific rapport with the children and I personally appreciated all he did to help the Ranney Community. He will be a great loss to all who knew him.
Nancy Young left a message on January 21, 2009:
Mr. Joe... He was always the guy with the wry smile, great sense of humor, and anything we needed to help the kids, he was there and ready. He had a terrific sense of humor, and ultimate patience. He was so proud of those fantastic green grounds, proud as proud can be. He helped many of us Ranney parents not only get through the traffic, making those multi-tasking multi-aranging appointments for kids actually happen, on time, without fender benders, but also get through the day. It was his help on Saturdays with the Panther Cubs, over 100 kids and assorted adults, that I thought was above and beyond the call. He was Fantastic. Always there, always dependable, always with a grin and simply perfect in every way. I will miss his smiling face, his wry sense of humor, and above all, his wonderful way with our kids. Oh, and by the way Joe, the Giants won....(but I think you know that already...)
Paul Gale left a message on January 21, 2009:
