Joseph Walter Yurechko, 66, of Leonardo passed away Tuesday night, January 26, 2021, surrounded by his family. Joseph was born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Irvington, NJ, where he and his family attended St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic church. He went to Brooklyn College but left to take a job as a Police officer in Irvington. After five years he decided to leave and take a job as the Manager of a K-Mart distribution warehouse and after many years he left K-Mart to be a manager for TSA at Newark International Airport.
Joseph met the love of his life, Olga, on a blind date set up by his sister, he and Olga would go on to get married in 2001. On February 12, 2002 Joe and Olga welcomed their son, Matthew into this world. The family moved to Leonardo and started their life together.
Joseph had a joy for model trains and model planes, he loved anything to do with the water and had a try talent in painting, even painting a mural in his son’s room for him when he was young. Joe had a passion for cooking and shopping with Olga. If you knew Joe, he loved collecting different hats and ties, which he had hundreds of. He often watched Star Trek and football with his son, Matthew. Those two had a bond like no other. He at times enjoyed smoking a flavored cigar while catching up with his friends and family. As a family, they would often visit Georgia to see his stepdaughter, Solomiya, son in law, Jeff and his 2 year old granddaughter, Emma. Joseph was truly a great man with a great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed.
Joseph is predeceased by his parents Joseph Yurechko and Anastasia Yurechko
Joseph is survived by his loving wife Olga of Leonardo, his children Matthew Yurechko of Leonardo and Solomiya Wright and her husband Jeff and beloved granddaughter Emma of Atlanta; his sister Olga M. Yurechko of Middletown and sisters in law and brothers in law in NJ and Ukraine.
