Mrs. Josephine Cereste, 90, formerly of Lincroft, passed away on Friday evening, July 25th, 2014 at the Meridian in Shrewsbury. Born in Newark, New Jersey, she lived in Newark, Irvington, and Lincroft before moving to Marlboro to be with her daughter Valerie. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Vincenzo in 2011 and previously by five brothers and a sister. She is survived by her son Daniel Cereste of West Orange, by her daughter Valerie Vanderstreet and her husband Bill of Marlboro, by a grandson Frank Vanderstreet, and by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, N.J. on Tuesday, July 29th from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Leo the Great R.C. Church in Lincroft. Interment will then follow at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange, N.J.

My memories of Josephine were at a Holiday party at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Colts Neck, we were trying to speak some words of Italian and the only one I got right was her name, Giuseppina! We had a few great laughs. I am so happy I got to spend another afternoon just her and I giving her a manicure on the patio of her daughter's house. It was a bright sunny day:). The greatest gift Giuseppina left us, is the sweetest gal, named Val, her daughter and her family. Thank you! Ciao!
