Joyce Evans, 76, of Freehold, passed away peacefully with her children by her side, Friday at Centra State Hospital.
Joyce was born and raised in Bronx, New York. A graduate of Columbus High School she furthered her studies at Brooklyn Methodist Nursing School and become a registered nurse in 1967. She worked at Jacobi Hospital, Nyack Hospital, and Westchester Medical Center, as a trauma nurse and as a specialist in cardiac emergency medicine. She saw a need in her community and founded a volunteer ambulance corp, training first responders and helping so many.
Creatively she was an avid quilter and sewist who loved to cook and could find the perfect gift for every occasion.
Joyce is predeceased by her siblings Janice Parker and David Deich.
Joyce is survived by her children Frank Rizzuto and his wife Julie, and Denise McGovern and her husband Mark; her siblings Joseph Deich, Claudia Deich, Deborah Deich, and Leslie Deich; and her beloved grandchildren Shaun, Kerry, Isabella, Frank, and Vivien.
At the wish of the family, Joyce will be privately cremated. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
