Karen W. Shatto, 71 of West Long Branch, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010 at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Mrs. Shatto was born and raised in Oakhurst and lived in West Long Branch since 1969. She was the office manager for 25 years for Long Branch Monument Company, West Long Branch. Karen was a volunteer for the March of Dimes and the Ronald McDonald House. She was an active member of the West Long Branch Community, served on the PTA, and was a leader for the Boy and Girl Scouts. She formed and coached for many years the first female softball team for the West Long Branch Sports Association. She was a lifelong member of Takanassee Beach Club. Karen will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Leigh Anne Shatto in 1963. She is survived by her husband, Ronald J. Shatto; four sons, Jon and his wife Tina Shatto, Peachtree City, Ga., Scott Shatto, Long Branch, Michael and his wife Kalina Shatto, Oceanside, Ca. and Ronnie Shatto, Santa Monica, Ca.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and James Holowach, Lakewood and Robin and Eric Labiak, Yardley, Pa.; her mother, Carolyn Woolley, Howell Twp.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Mary Woolley, Haddonfield, NJ and Peter and Beth Woolley, Deal, and her 13 grandchildren, Robert, Thomas, Christopher, Alexis, Benjamin, David, Matthew, C.J., Lindsey, Tyler, Luke, Connor and Katrina. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 8th, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St., Long Branch, NJ. Funeral services will be Tues. Nov. 9th, 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch. Those wishing may make contributions to the March of Dimes, NJ Chapter, 2400 Main Street, Suite 1, Sayreville, NJ 08872. The world dimmed when we lost you, but your spirit is forever with us. I love you, grandma.

Jill, It wouldn't have been lunch without stopping to see your mom and saying Hi.

Way back in the the seventies I played tennis with Karen and some other ladies from WLB. She was a good player, much better than I, and fun to be around. Our son Marc and Michael have been friends since they were 5 years old. We would see one another at soccer games until they graduated from Shore. We also were members of Tak Beach Club where we would see Karen and family in the same location every summer. The days were filled with sun and fun on the weekends beach parties. Karen also was so kind when my mom passed away helping me select the head stone and creating a special tribute to my mom. She knew her business well. It made a difficult time much easier which I'm sure she did with so many in need of the her service. May Karen Rest in Peace With heart felt sympathy, Grace and Jim

It was an honor to have known you. I have many wonderful memories of you working so hard on behalf of the children of West Long Branch. We were all lucky to have you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Karen was just a wonderful, wonderful lady! Her children are proof of what a great person she was. I looked forward to every summer sitting and talking to her at Tak. My first memory of her was the summer of 1978, seeing this woman sitting by the waters edge in her chair, with a little boy tied to a rope (young Ronnie) with just enough rope to reach the water!! I still tell that story. It was the best idea I've ever seen! She was a great lady and will be missed by all that knew her. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

Jill, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Your mother was a great person. Her children are a testament to that fact.

Always will think of you when we are at the beach. Your memory will always be with us.

Though nothing can bring back the hour of splenor in the grass, glory of the flower, we grieve not rather find strengh in what remains behind and celebrate her amazing life. And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
