Karyn R. Ferrise, 56, of Marlboro died Friday, May 26th surrounded by her loving family.
Karyn was grew up on Staten Island, NY with her parents and four siblings. Karyn graduated from St. Claire’s and St. Joseph Hill High School. She married her HS sweetheart and they lived in NY, London and Marlboro, where they raised their daughters, Ava and Hannah.
Karyn earned her BA in Early Childhood Education and an MS of Elementary Education from the College of Staten Island. She also earned an MS in Speech and Language Pathology from Monmouth University in 2018. Karyn taught early childhood grades within the NYC Board of Education schools for seventeen years and was a Speech Specialist at the Jamesburg Public Schools JFK Elementary School.
Karyn was a loving wife and devoted mother to her daughters.
Karyn and Joe lived in London and loved to travel, visiting France, Spain, Greece, Italy, Hungry. She enjoyed gardening, baking and knitting. She enjoyed teaching and baking with Ava and Hannah. Karyn loved movies and music of the 70 and 80’s, especially Elton John and Duran Duran, watching Downton Abbey, and cheering on her favorite Premier Football teams Chelsea and Manchester United.
Karyn is survived by her loving husband Joseph of Marlboro; her daughters Ava and Hannah; her brothers John, Timothy and Brian Gillen of Staten Island and sister Keri Gillen of Staten Island. She will be sincerely missed by all who were privileged to know her.
Visitation for Karyn will be Thursday, June 1st, 4-8pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Rd, Holmdel. A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, June 2nd at 12:15pm at St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Church, 100 N. Main St., Marlboro. Burial will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharott Ave, Staten Island, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Karyn’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, jdrf.org.
