Kathy M. Vassallie (nee Scrivanich), 70, of Long Branch, passed away Monday surrounded by her family.
Kathy was born at Fort Benning in Georgia and moved to New Jersey in her childhood. She graduated from Ocean Township High School and began her career at Shadow Lawn Bank. Kathy married the love of her life, Raymond P. Vassallie Sr., in 1984. The two settled in Long Branch to raise their young family. After starting her family, Kathy switched careers and began a new endeavor at Monmouth Medical Center. Due to her hard work and dedication throughout her thirty-year tenure at the hospital, Kathy scaled the ranks, eventually becoming a Radiology Department supervisor.
While she thrived in her work at the hospital, she found the greatest joy in being a mom and a grandma. Kathy loved traveling and spending time with her family. She was always the mom who cheered the loudest in the stands at all of her children’s events. Her many life lessons serve as her legacy as she instilled important values into her children.
Kathy has been described as vibrant, charismatic, and a force to be reckoned with. Despite most of her life being spent in New Jersey, Kathy’s southern roots always shined through. She knew the true meaning of hospitality and always loved meeting new people. She always knew how to make people feel at ease. Even standing in line at the grocery store, within minutes Kathy would be chatting with the person next to her as if they were old friends. She always knew exactly what to say in any situation, whether charming new acquaintances or advocating for those around her. She was never afraid to use her voice and imposing 5’9” stature to right an injustice.
Kathy is predeceased by her husband, Raymond P. Vassallie Sr.. Her father, John Scrivanich, mother, Violet Polhemus, and stepfather, George Polhemus.
Kathy is survived by her children Raymond Vassallie Jr. (RJ) of Long Branch, and Nicole Sivilli and her husband Joe of Freehold. Her beloved grandchildren, Joey and Ryan Sivilli. She is also survived by her stepmother, Shirley Scrivanich and brothers, Anthony and John Scrivanich of Florida. Her brother and sister-in-law Joe Vassallie of Long Branch and Mary Labanowski of Queens, NY. Her nieces and nephews are JJ Vassallie, Keith Labanowski, Doreen Cattelona, and Trey and Jacqualyn Scrivanich. In addition to immediate family, she leaves behind many extended family members including cousins, close friends, and lasting memories for all that knew her.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2nd from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch, NJ 07740. A service will be offered the next day at the funeral home at 9:30 AM, followed by a burial at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Kathy’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, to help further research, prevention, and ultimately a cure.
