Dr. Larry Karasic (Harold Lawrence Karasic) passed away on December 22, 2017 in Long Branch, NJ at Monmouth Medical Center. He was 83 years old and surrounded by his loving family.
He was born November 19, 1934 in his beloved Asbury Park, NJ to Rebecca and Reuben Karasic, and had five siblings – Esther, Bernard, Sam, Maurice, and Jerry.
He married Honey Deitelbaum in Philadelphia, PA on June 24, 1961 and they celebrated their 56th anniversary this year.
He attended Ursinus College from 1952 to 1956 and attended medical school at Hahnemann University from 1956 to 1960. He remained at Hahnemann for a residency program in anesthesia. He served in the US Navy in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a Lieutenant and was the base anesthesiologist from 1963 to 1965.
He served as an anesthesiologist at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ for over 40 years. Upon retirement, he became a volunteer there mentoring future medical students in the Monmouth Scholars program as Director, Introduction to Hospital Care.
Larry’s medical accomplishments also include stints as Chief of Anesthesia at Monmouth Medical Center, President of NJ State Society of Anesthesiologists, and President of Hahnemann Medical School Alumni Association.
An active contributor to Jewish causes, Larry served as President of Jewish Federation of Monmouth County and President of Jewish Community Center of Monmouth County, where he spearheaded fundraising for the completion of its pool and fitness center. He currently served on the board of The Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal, NJ.
He lived with his family in Ocean Township, NJ.
He loved to play racquetball, read, listen to rock music, and learn about other cultures.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Honey Karasic, his children, Robert Karasic and spouse Angela Karasic, Shara Karasic, Leslie Karasic and spouse Josh Rodriguez, Neal Karasic and spouse Michelle Stern, and his beloved grandchildren Zachary Karasic, Emily Karasic, Gabriel Pernell, Ellis Karasic and Jordan and Colten Pena.
There is a funeral service for Larry on December 24th at 11:00 AM at Congregation Torat El in Oakhurst, NJ. Burial to follow in Agudath Achim Cemetery, Neptune.
