Lawrence “Larry” Desmond, Sr. made a peaceful transition into God’s loving embrace on October 5, 2021, while in the presence of loved ones, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ.
Larry is survived by his 4 children, Lawrence J Desmond Jr. of Long Branch, NJ; Lauren J Attanasio and husband Joe Attanasio of Tinton Falls, NJ; Joyce M Desmond of Long Branch, NJ and James M Desmond and wife Sarah Desmond of Salisbury, NC; his sister, Rosemary VonTobel and husband Carl VonTobel of Matamoras, PA and brother, Rev. Joe Desmond of Matawan, NJ; as well as 3 Grandchildren and one Great-Grandchild.
Larry served as an electrical engineer in the US Army from 1952-1956. After his military service, Larry worked as a repair technician, landscaper, and in delivery services. A ‘Jack of all trades’, Larry could fix just about anything that was broken. Larry was a lover of the ocean and had a passion for boating, swimming, fishing and crabbing. An avid beachcomber in his earlier years, Larry found many treasures that he proudly shared with his friends and family. He also enjoyed bowling on occasion, and a rack or two at the local billiards hall. As he grew older, Larry discovered a love for Monday night bingo, and never missed a game. Larry also developed a love for being amongst the trees at the nearby arboretum and would go for long rides on his electric scooter chair, to enjoy nature and leave snacks for the deer.
Often described as a character, Larry made an impression on anyone with whom he crossed paths. He will be dearly missed by his family, his friends and his neighbors at the Meadowbrook in Eatontown.
The Traveler
He has put on invisibility.
I cannot see—
But this I know, although the road ascendsAnd passes from my sight,
That there will be no night;
That You will take him gently by the hand
And lead him on
Along the road of life that never ends,
And he will find it is not death but dawn.
I do not doubt that You are there as here,
And You will hold him dear.
