Leona Littman passed away on January 29, 2024 at the age of 100. Her mother also lived to be 100 years old. She was born in Newark, NJ, and grew up in Maplewood.
She moved to New Shrewsbury (Tinton Falls) in 1955 and raised three children there.
Leona was a graduate of Columbia High School and Duke University, Durham, NC. An avid reader, she was one of the founders of the New Shrewsbury Public Library, and spent decades there as a volunteer. She also volunteered to transcribe children’s books for the blind, using the Braille system. As an adult, she earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science.
Leona enjoyed traveling all over the world, reading, knitting, and doing the NY Times crossword puzzle in ink. She took pleasure in spending her summers with her family at the beach club in Sea Bright
Leona is predeceased by her husband, Donald. Surviving are her sons James Littman and Eric Littman(Jayne) and her daughter Cindy Singer(Steven). She is also survived by her grandchildren Rachel, Lori Roller(Brad), Evan Littman(Jocy), Jada Eldrich(Sam), Alisa Feinberg(Justin), Louis Littman(Laura), and Jeffrey Littman. Her great grandchildren are Alex, Kate, Hadley, Jacob, Maxwell, Zachary, and Benjamin.
Leona is also survived by her loving and kind caregiver, Joy Witter.
Burial will be private.
