Louise S. Fratto (née) Schaffner, of Madison, NJ passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Monday, October 10, 2022. She was 89.
Louise was born in Hershey Hospital, Hershey, PA on September 3, 1933 to the late Herbert A. and Louise K. Schaffner. She grew up in Pennsylvania with her beloved brother Herbert “Bo” Schaffner and received her undergraduate degree from Hood College in Fredrick, Maryland.
She was working at IBM in New York City when she met her future husband Kenneth P. Fratto on a blind date. They married on November 26, 1960, and raised three children in Holmdel, NJ.
Louise was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. She was very involved in her children’s activities when they were growing up and always available for support and counsel after they married and started lives of their own. A lover of animals, Louise started a pet sitting business and was happy to care for the dogs and cats of her many friends in and around Holmdel. Louise was a voracious reader and there was always a stack of books by her bedside. She loved to travel and made frequent visits overseas while her daughter lived abroad. Louise was a woman of tremendous faith and spent decades attending and supporting Holmdel Community United Church of Christ. Most importantly, Louise adored her seven grandchildren and was a patient and devoted grandmother, who was happiest surrounded by her family.
In addition to her parents, Louise was predeceased by her husband Kenneth P. Fratto and brother Herbert A. Schaffner, Jr. Louise is survived by her three children, Mary Schaenen and her husband Douglas, Kenneth Fratto, Jr. and his wife Liz and Paul Fratto and his wife Dawn; seven cherished grandchildren, Claire, Malcolm, Stuart, Kyle, Greg, Avery and Alex and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services for Louise are being held privately by her family. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in her memory to Holmdel Community United Church of Christ, 40 Main St., Holmdel, NJ 07733.
