Lydia Giannattasio passed away peacefully at the age of 90 with her loving family continually by her bedside.
Lydia was the daughter of Elizabeth and Antonio Troiani, raised in Midland, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her brothers, Vincent, Albert, sister Pauline, and her loving husband Napoleon Giannattasio.
Lydia worked in the offices at Crucible Steel in Midland, after graduating High School. In the summer of July 1953, Lydia met Napoleon of Park Slope, Brooklyn on the beach in Wildwood, NJ. They often retold the story of how they met. They courted for 3 years through letters and visits to Brooklyn and Pennsylvania. They wed in September of 1956. The couple moved to Nappy’s beloved Brooklyn where he served proudly for the NYPD, while Lydia dedicated her life to being an officer’s wife and raising their 5 children.
The couple moved to New Jersey in 1997 to be close to their children and families, while enjoying many winters in Daytona Beach.
Lydia was a devoted wife, mother and the heart of her home, where her children always gathered and shared many dinners of her Sunday Sauce. Holidays and special celebrations always included hours of baking her family recipe of Pizzelles, frying up her zucchini fritters, and the aromas of her Mama’s Wedding Soup, all of which continue to be traditions for her children and grandchildren passed down for generations to come.
Lydia is survived by her children, Mary Fox and her husband Matthew, Carol Gallo and her husband Dominick, Edward and his wife Susan, Michael and his wife Maria, Allie and his wife Gina; her 11 grandchildren Ryan, Alex, Catrina, Kevin, Lydia, Elizabeth, Edward, Danielle, Nicole, Kristen, Amanda; 3 great grandchildren Mason, Daniel, and Jacob.
