LYDIA JACOBS, Age 88 of Monmouth Beach, New Jersey, formerly of West Long Branch, died on February 21, 2012. She was born in Poland, emigrated in 1938 and lived in White Plains, New York; she graduated in 1941 from White Plains high School and attended classes at Columbia University for two years. She graduated from Gaines Business School, 52nd Street, New York City and was subsequently employed by Consolidated Millinery Company, 38th St. and 5th Avenue, New York City. She married in 1944 and moved to Monmouth County where she was a homemaker and worked in sales for Macy's. She was a lifetime member of Congregation Brothers of Israel and served as President of its Sisterhood for several years. She was also a lifetime member of Hadassah, Long Branch Chapter. She spent 3 months as a volunteer in Netanya, Israel in the school system as a reader of English and in an orphanage. She was also a member of the Democratic National Committee. She was predeceased by her parents, Morris and Rose Zarkower, White Plains, New York and her husband of almost forty years, Dr. Harold Jacobs, PHD. He was a physicist at CECOM Laboratories, Ft. Monmouth, N.J. and Chairman of the Electronic Engineering Department, Monmouth University from its inception in 1953 until his death in 1983. In his honor the family has maintained a scholarship for the best student in the sciences. Her oldest grandson, Jason Miller, was killed in an auto accident in California at the age of 28 in 2008. Mrs. Jacobs is survived by her brother, Bill Zarkower of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., a daughter, Suzanne Miller and her husband Peter of Solana Beach, CA,; her son, Glenn Jacobs of Englewood, N.J.; her son, Steven Jacobs and his wife, Dr. Sheila Jacobs of Flagstaff, AZ; and her daughter, Maura Resnikoff and her husband Jeffrey of West Long Branch, N.J. Also six grandchildren: Heather, Lindsey and Andrew Jacobs; Sharen, Lauren and Matthew Resnikoff and nine nieces and nephews. Shiva to be held following burial at Shores Condominium, 45 Ocean Avenue, Monmouth Beach, N.J. until 8:00 P.M. and continue Friday 1-4 P.M. and Sunday 1-4 P.M.
