I just got a call today from your secretary, that you passed from life to life. you have always been there for me and my family for so many years. You married Pat and I in the Star of the Sea Chapel. Nick was so proud to altar serve for you and he misses his confirmation "father" and he'll miss your remembering that date every November with a cheerful letter. I wrote you after Christmas and watched for your letter back, but it never came. I'm so heartbroken tonight. You're in our hearts and prayers forever Father Joe. Love, Nicole, Pat and Nicholas

I remember father Joe as one of my counselors in the late 1980's. I also remember attending his 50th birthday at The Knights of Columbus in Long Branch, NJ. In his spare time, he liked wrestling and he also played drums. Not just I, but many of us thought that he wasn't going to age. His homilies are what kept me going back to the Church at the time. I also remember that he cared deeply about his parishioners and their families. I am so sorry to hear that he passed. I will keep his family in my prayers. Sincerely, Susan Paduano

Dear Mary and family, Although I cannot be with you on Sat., please know that I am thinking of all of you. I hope that Fr. Joe told you about our visit in the summer. I am grateful that we had that with him. It was also very healing for me as we discussed things about Chris. I sent him pictures togive to you, but don't know if that happened. I know that he will be buried with Chris and your parents and I was happy to see that. He shared many memories about he and Chris growing up and we laughed about some of Chris' antics. I would love to talk with you someday. Please let me know how I can reach you. Love and prayers, Mary

I had been away from the church for a lot of years & when I got smart & went back I went to Star of the Sea. I always knew I was a Christian, but Father Joe is the reason I became Catholic. His homilies at Star of the Sea inspired me, guided me, and made me feel like I was in "the right place" every Sunday, ultimately leading to my decision to begin the RCIA process. I am honored to have had Father Joe minister my RCIA ceremony, and I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from his practical, genuine, down-to-earth, entertaining messages (with a joke or a tune always thrown in for good measure) about what he always held most dear - God, love, and relationships. He will truly be missed.
