Marie E. Ruggiero, 88 of Woodbridge passed away Wednesday, February 19th at Bayshore Community Hospital surrounded by her family.
Marie was born in Newark and raised in Nutley. Marie has four children whom she would raise in West Orange on her own. Through the struggle of being a single parent Marie persevered and always kept her head up, she never lost her pride and never let anything get in the way of what really mattered. She was a strong woman who loved her children with all her heart.
Marie had a passion for reading, and crossword puzzles. She had a true love for animals, especially dogs. Marie was always able to connect with her family through her cooking, she would host Sunday dinners and have plenty of food for whoever would come. She will be sorely missed.
Marie is predeceased by her brothers Dominick and Robert Philicione.
Marie is survived by her children Barry Ruggiero of Brick, John Ruggiero of Metuchen, Diane Ruggiero of Holmdel and Sandra Ruggiero of Woodbridge, her grandchildren Joseph, Sara, Amanda, Brandon, Brian, John, Aidan and Gavin, her great grandchildren Samantha and Amaya and her sister Stella Philicione.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 23rd from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Funeral mass will be offered the following day, Monday, February 24th at 9:15 AM at the Church of St. Catharine, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel. Marie will be privately cremated following the service.

You were always so much fun to be around. Your sense of humor was totally contagious and you always had your dogs! You are a beautiful person and I am glad my mother knew you and considered you her friend. I can see how such a friendship would develop for you both and it is through her that I came to know you and your family. Also all great people. Thanks for letting us be kids at your house and sharing your love of life with us. God bless you.
To Marie’s children: thank you for being such fine people and for taking care of your mother. You four were her total pride and joy. I know you will miss her cause that is the way it is supposed to be. It’s through our mamas that we learn to love and accept and grow into being the people who we eventually become. May you find comfort in your memories with and of her and of one another and may they carry you over the hurdles you have forthcoming in the next few days. She would want you to carry on with your heads held high and your hearts filled with love and laugh when you can because she sure would.
