Mario D. Crupi, 87, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at home in Holmdel, NJ. He was born in Mileto, Italy in 1934, before moving to the United States at the age of 5.
Mario received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Seton Hall University, and a teaching Fellowship from the National Science Foundation. Prior to his graduate degree, he proudly served in the Army Reserve, where he fostered a love for military collectibles. For 39 years, he shaped countless minds teaching Chemistry and Physics at Keyport High School and was also Director of the evening Keyport Adult School.
Besides his inquisitive love of science, Mario was an avid maker. Never without a project and great with his hands, he loved his tools and was always creating, repairing, or doing home improvements. There was never a problem he couldn’t fix, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Mario was a devoted husband and father and always valued family above all. Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce; his two daughters, Lisa DeSantis and her husband David of Fair Haven, Jennifer Crupi and her husband Luis of Oceanport, his sister, Rosemarie Accardi and her husband Joseph of Little Silver; and Mario’s two beloved grandchildren, Emma and Bella; and his nieces and nephews. Predeceased is his mother, Isabella Mazzeo Crupi; father, Dominick A. Crupi; brothers, Msgr. Francis J. Crupi and Armand A. Crupi; and daughter, Jodi Crupi.
A visitation will be Thursday, January 13th, from 4 to 7 p.m at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, January 14th, 10:30 am at St.Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Burial will follow at Holmdel Cemetery.
