Mary Jane (Curry) Bunge of Aberdeen, NJ passed away on January 8, 2022, at the age of 87. Mary Jane was born March 6, 1934 in Bronx, NY. Upon graduating St. Vincent’s Nursing School in Manhattan, she became one of the first nurses to open Jacobi “Montifiore” Hospital in the Bronx. Most of her nursing career was dedicated to elder care at Emory Manor Nursing Home. She later worked at JFK Medical Adult Daycare. Her compassion to care for others continued until she retired from nursing at the age of 75.
After her husband (Ed) of 15 years died at the age of 47, Mary Jane raised her five children herself. She loved walks in Keyport with her dear friends, strolling the Long Branch promenade and seaside drives with her son Robert. She also enjoyed her fun trips to Atlantic City. Mary Jane traveled to many places in the world throughout her life. One of her favorite places was the beach where she spent many years with her sisters in Spring Lake. Mary Jane was a devoted parishioner of St. Benedict’s Church, Holmdel, NJ and a dedicated “9 o’clocker”.
She was pre-deceased by husband, Edmund, her brothers, Thomas, James and Richard Curry. She is survived by her sister Madeline “Addy” (Curry) Donohue and Judith (Curry) Kleve. She is also survived by her children, son Ed Bunge and his wife Barbara of East Brunswick, NJ; daughter Mary Ann (Bunge) Troyano and her husband Tom of Annandale, VA; son Thomas Bunge and his wife Heather of Highlands, NJ; son Richard Bunge and his wife Marianne of Hazlet, NJ; son Robert of Aberdeen NJ.
Mary Jane was a devoted grandmother who took a special interest in each of her grandchildren. She is survived by her 11 grandchildren, Eddie Bunge and his wife Lauren, Eric Bunge and his wife Sara, Evan Bunge, Allison (Troyano) Hancin and her husband Jonathon, Thomas Troyano and his wife Morgan, Laura Troyano, Chris Bunge and his wife Erinn, Kyle Bunge, Troy Bunge, Ryan Bunge, Matthew Bunge and her 6 great grandchildren, Emma, Jayden and Gwen Bunge; James Hancin; Jack and Luke Bunge.
Visitation Wednesday, January 12th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, January 13th, 10 am at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
