Michael A. McGarr, born December 7, 1946, of Oakhurst, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on February 17, 2023, surrounded by his family. Michael was born and raised in Long Branch, NJ, until moving to Oakhurst in 1976, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
He utilized his many talents and skills as a building contractor, and was owner of Michael McGarr Contracting. Michael lived for his daughters and was happiest when he was with them. He loved spending time in his garden, going to the beach, fishing, cooking, and taking his dog for walks on the boardwalk and in the woods.
Michael is survived by his wife, Norma, his two daughters Danielle Barr and Lauren McGarr, his sister Diane Karasic, and his beloved pets Hudson and Indie. He also had many loving cousins and friends who held a special place in his heart.
Michael was predeceased by his mother, Beatrice McGarr, and numerous, loving Aunts and Uncles from the Tuzzio family.
Those who knew him best were able to experience his calm nature, sense of humor, and quiet wisdom. He was one of a kind and made a remarkable impression on everyone he met. He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
Michael’s family will be holding a burial service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch on Friday February 24th, at 11am. Following the service, the family will gather at Rooney’s Oceanfront Restaurant at 100 Ocean Avenue in Long Branch.
