I was fortunate as a young student from Ecuador, only 19 (I'm 46 now) to have won a scholarship at Brookdale Community College and through Elaine Baran, who worked at BCC, have met Sharon, Mike, Lauren & Chris, today my family, my lovely family that God gave me as a gift. Even though I have crossed many seas, our love, respect, friendship has never diminished. On the contrary, I have been fortunate to have shared Christmas, New Years Eve, many laughs and tears of happenings as part of life itself. Mike, always so funny, kind hearted, family man, cooked for me clams on the BBQ that I am so addicted to. I flew in October to NJ for 4 days when I learned his health was going through rough waters. Wanted to hug my Trotta family and I did. Those 4 days with Mike, Sharon, Chris, Lauren, JR and the kids is a gift. I said goodby when I step into my taxi to the airport in NY at 3:00 am. I loved that hug that ended in solitude tears as I saw the memories pass as a beautifu film as the taxi drove away, the wonderful moments shared during these 27 years! Always in my heart! Nena Aviles

Mike was more than a brother'in'law to me. He was the brother I never had. I knew Mike from a teenager and through the years of accumulating illnesses, any of which would have made most of us give up, but not Mike. I had the good fortune to hunt again with him in January. The fact that he even wanted to go, was a testimony to his courage. Mike is the kind of person that you meet once in your life if you're lucky. My only hope is to try and be the kind of man he was. I will miss him more than I can say.

Mike was an amazing man. He was a pheneomenal father and loving husband. He should be so proud to have had the family he did. He was truly passionate and loving and nurturing everytime we were around him. He was full of life and energy. It was always so nice to be around the Trotta family everytime we came to Jersey. We knew our bellies would be full, there would be smiles on our face and great conversation and things to be learned from Sharon and Mike. He is now an angel and Sophie, Brexton and Willow now all have a special anagel and someone who will always be with them looking out for them. We are always here for all of you in anytime of need. We love you all...Jaclyn, David, Jake, Madison, Luke and Billy Stutz...xoxo

To Sharon and family, It is with heavy heart that I write this message. So hard to believe that Mike has gone to his heavenly home where pain and suffering are no more. As I worked with Mike for those years on Eatontown Council, it seemed to me that he would always be with us. Well, he is ,in our thoughts and hearts. He was a great man, friend of many, husband, father, and grandfather--all who will cherish knowing and remembering Mike. May you now rest in peace.

I wanted to tell you how great Mr Trotta was after my mom passed away. I put out an email to everyone asking for stories I could record and share with my brother and the rest of my family. Mr Trotta wrote me telling me of how he and Mom would bump into each other at the gym and chat the whole time they were on the treadmill. His story made me laugh and it was extra special becuase it was a story I hadn't heard before and it was so very kind of him to take the time to share it. He said he wasn't sure either of them actually worked out when it happened. They were always doing too much talking and mostly about food. He shared his famous egg nog cake recipe with me to include in the book I was making. He knew that my mom, just like so many others, really loved that cake. I tasted one he made and shared with my mom; it was delicious. I'm sure you'll be making it in the future and thinking of him. I know I will. Peace and love; prayers for you all during this terrible time. with love, Lauren McBride

Michael Trotta was a very special man who holds a place in all of our hearts especially with all of the Indiana University Alpha Chi Omega girls. Your love for IU sports, your daughter Lauren, and your sincereness to all of Lauren's friends will never be forgotten. You have always been so thoughtful and kind and always welcomed us into your family and home. I also got to experience the very famous 'eggnog cakes' at Infinity with your daughter, which will surely be missed. You lit up a room and have left so many great impressions on all. May you rest in peace and watch over your beautiful family from above. Love, Nicole Carline

We lost a piece of Monmouth Beach when we lost Mike. I was fortunate enough to live across the street from Mike (and Sharon) for 15 years until the storm hit. Our street has not been the same since they left. Mike was simply the perfect neighbor! He was always there to smile, laugh, share a story, ask about my family.... just to talk about life. My favorite Mike memory has to be one Halloween when we were both camped out at the end of our driveways giving out candy. The entire afternoon he was practicing his speech he was about to give at Lauren's wedding. He worked on it for hours. He wanted it to be perfect for her! He kept changing words and asking if I liked the new version better, etc... Mike lived for his family. He will be their angel that watches over all of them now. I am honored to call him my friend. RIP to the most wonderful neighbor there ever was.

If the job of a Business Administrator were to be considered 'A High Wire Act', then Mike Trotta would be considered the Nick Walenda of Busines Administrators. A talented and trusted performer who faithfully served his governing body, while at the same time he constantly juggled a myriad of departments and employees. Well respected by his fellow professionals and subordinates alike, Mike was a man of both wisdom and compassion. If you had an issue, he would go out of his way to ensure a resolution. On the other side of his 'open door' you would always find a smile and warm greeting, and comfort in the knowledge that Mike Trotta was there to help you. Thank you Mike. You will be sadly missed by all.

Mike and Sharon hosted a party that commemorated the one year anniversary of the 'big storm'. There have been so many that I can't remember exactly which one but, I think it was 83 or 84. All the neighbors were invited and everyone came in storm gear. There was lots of laughter which there always seemed to be when Mike was around. He was a lovely guy, respected by all who knew him. He always had a smile and a nice word for everyone. I think of him walking 'Cruiser' and picture them together now. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Sharon and the rest of the Trotta clan. You will be missed, Mike. Rest in peace.

I've been a colleauge and friend of Lauren Trotta and her family for the past 10 years. Throughout the years my holidays were always extra special because of Pappa Trotta's Eggnog Cake. I always looked forward to Pappa Trotta coming into the city and hand delivering them because nothing was more special than his smile and hug! What an amazing man, I will truly miss you Pappa Trotta, rest in peace.....

Mike was a mentor to many 'young' municipal administrators in his career but he will always be special to me because he was the very first administrator to offer me advice and counsel when I first entered the profession many years ago. He was always quick to smile and laugh, offer sage insight and witty intelligence to virtually any situation. He will be sorely missed.

I have many stories of Mike but I am so honored to have been his friend... Mike was the bravest and most giving man I have known and being with him was always such a joy!! He spoke of his family always with that beautiful smile and the glint in his eye that reminded you just how much he loved them and related stories in such a way that I would always ask him to tell the one about... knowing that I would once again laugh till I cried... I will trully miss my friend and will think of him often!!! RIP Michael...
