Mariam McBain, 80, of Harrison, NY, passed away on Monday, March 3.
Mariam was born and raised in Mafraq, Jordan to the late Martha and Hayel Abbassi. She was the eldest of 9 children. She completed her nursing degree in Jordan and then worked at Aramco in Saudi Arabia where she met her husband, Eric McBain. They were married and devoted to each other for 23 years, when he predeceased her in 1995. Mariam, a young widow at the time, poured all of her faith, energy, and strength into raising their 3 children: Anne, Suzanne, and Charles McBain in their family home in Harrison, NY all the while managing their family business.
Mariam was an excellent cook, who took time to prepare traditional Arabic meals on a daily basis. Mariam enjoyed reading the Bible in English and in Arabic. She was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. Most of all however, she loved spending time with her family.
She is predeceased by her parents, and her loving husband, Eric McBain.
Surviving are her three children: Anne and her husband Ziad Abbud of Colts Neck, NJ Suzanne and her husband George Nukho of Scarsdale, NY, and Charles McBain of Harrison, NY, and 10 beloved grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, March 8 at 11am at Grace Bible Church, Allenwood, NJ. Entombment will follow at St. Gabriel Mausoleum, Marlboro, NJ.
