Mona M. Heavey, 87, passed away peacefully at Brandywine Assisted Living, Shrewsbury, New Jersey on February 13th after a long illness. Born Mona Veronica Meagher in 1934 in New York City, NY to William R. and Margaret B. Meagher, and raised in Riverside and Ridgewood, NJ, she attended Ridgewood High School and graduated from St. Lawrence Academy and Marymount College, Tarrytown, NY.
In 1958 she married John Charles Heavey, Jr., a lifelong attorney and member of the New Jersey, New York, and Federal Bars. Prior to her marriage she worked with New York Telephone Company. Predeceased by her husband, Ms. Heavey was a longtime resident of Deal, NJ and a member of Deal Golf & Country Club, and lived at various stages of her life in Oakland, Deal and Neptune, NJ and had homes in Piercefield, NY and West Palm Beach, FL.
Ms. Heavey is survived by sons John W. Heavey and his wife, Joanne of Ocean Township, Thomas J. Heavey and his wife, Cynthia of Brielle, and Mark R. Heavey and his wife, Catherine of Red Bank; daughters, Sharon Wester and her husband, Paul of Boylston, MA, and Sheila Heavey of Newport, RI; she was the loving grandmother of Megan, Brian, Michael, Thomas, Julia, Shea, Michaella and Cameron; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8:30-9:45 a.m., Thursday, February 17th at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Church, 46 Richmond Avenue, Deal. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Wall. In lieu of customary remembrances Mona’s family requests with gratitude, donations be made to Interfaith Neighbors, Asbury Park.
