Nicholas 'Nick' Vloyanetes, age 94 of Long Branch, NJ died Thursday, June 18, 2009, after a short illness, at St Barnabas Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Long Branch. He was born on September 1, 1914, Perth Amboy, NJ. Nick grew up during the depression, and was self-educated, he enjoyed studying Greek and Byzantine History, and loved classical music. He was an avid photographer and cook, having prepared many meals for family and friends. He was a coffee connoisseur and critic. His homemade rice pudding was another of his specialties enjoyed by family and friends. Nick often baked his own bread. Anyone who knew Nick knew of his love for a fresh brewed cup of coffee. Nick had a long career in the restaurant business working at the Officers Club, Fort Monmouth, Molly Pitcher Hotel and retired from Old Orchard Restaurant & Golf Club in 1979. He was a lifelong FDR Democrat and an avid New York Yankee baseball fan. He was a World War II veteran and hero having served in the Pacific in the US Army Corp as a member of the, Americal Division which reinforced the First Marine Division during its assault on the Solomon Islands. For his heroic service he received a Presidential Unit Citation and Ribbon with a Star from the Commandant of the US Marine Corps. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Asbury Park, NJ. He was predeceased by his brothers, John and George Vloyanetes; two Sisters Stella Boesch and Bea Lymph. Surviving is his wife whom he married on December 28, 1947, Cecelia Chrisicos Vloyanetes; Two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Kathleen of West Long Branch, Nicholas John and Margaret of Brick, NJ.; two sisters, Jean Klothekis and Fanny Cohen, Pensacola, Fl.; two sister's-in-law, Esther Chrisicos and Carolyn Brown, West Long Branch; Two step brothers, Emanuel and William Vloyanetes; Two grandchildren Leslie and her husband Christopher Babiak of Jarrettsville, Maryland and Andrew and his wife Angela Vloyanetes of Perkasie, PA,; two great-grand children Sean Nicholas and Jacob Theodore Babiak. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be Saturday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St. at Broadway, Long Branch. There will be no visiting hours on Sunday out of respect for Father's day. Funeral service Monday 10:00 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 700 Grand Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ.
