Paolo “Paul” D. Paone passed away peacefully November 15, 2023 with his daughter at his bedside. He was 89 years old.
Paul was born in Tiriolo, Province of Catanzaro, Italy on June 30, 1934. At 18, he moved to Jamaica, Queens with his family, leading to a service career in the U.S. Army and a 45 year career with the Federal Government, working with GPS Sonar as both an engineer and education/instructor.
Equal to his pride in his work was his fandom for the New York Yankees and Juventus Football Club, as well as his compassion for the work he and his fellow members did for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. For Long Branch Elks #742, Paul earned the rank of Exalted Ruler in 1969, but he continued to say that one of his greatest accomplishments during his service was earning Elk of the Year in 1977. In addition to earning the ranks of Vice President (1971-1972) and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler (1972-1973), he was appointed Administrative Assistant to the Grand Exalted Ruler Authur Mayer, Jr. in 2001. Paul would go on to be named Grand Esteemed Leading Knight in 2004.
Family was everything for Paul, prioritizing the opportunities to be with his sister, grandchildren, nieces and nephews over everything else for special occasions and holidays. Traveling and fine dining were two of his favorite hobbies.
Paul is predeceased by his wife Mildred Paone in 2010, mother, Caterina Pucci Paone in 2012, Giuseppe Paone in 1955, step-son James Lore in 2007, and brother-in-law, Louis Parisi in 1989.
Surviving is his daughter, Lorieanne Paone, Long Branch; sister, Maria Parisi, Tinton Falls; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Eric and Krysten Paone-Hurd and their children, McKenzi and Russell, and Amanda and Christian Aksu.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 19th, 1 to 5 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch.
