March 16, 1956 - December 14, 2020

Patricia A. Chavez, 64 of Oceanport passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised in Long Branch, attending Long Branch Schools where she and her husband Dean began dating in Middle School. They married 9 years later and have been for 44 years.

Patty’s greatest passion was her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and her three grandsons as well as their large extended family. She loved traveling with her grandchildren and providing them with new and exciting experiences. This was truly her greatest joy.

Additionally, she was a longtime and dedicated parishioner of St. Michaels RC Church in Long Branch. She served as the Director of Religious Education for over 32 years. She was deeply faithful to Padre Pio, the Blessed Mother, St. Anthony and St. Joseph.

Patty loved spending time exercising and sharing her passion for fitness as an instructor for many years.

She devoted her life to helping others. Whether it was through her loving advice to her many friends, commitment to numerous charities and her community of Long Branch, Patty always put others first.

Patty was predeceased by her parents, Nina and Richard Reinhardt and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Debbie and Anthony Perri. Surviving is her devoted husband and best friend of 53 years, Dean Chavez; their loving daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Dave Wilson; her three adored grandsons, Parker, Levi and Deacon; her sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Harry Smith; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Paul Chavez and Ed Woods, Tony and Rosalie Gonzales, Lisa and Gene Lane, Mark and Denise Gonzales, Ricky and Kelly Gonzales; her nephews and nieces, AJ, Dylan, Ashley, Neva, Toni, Erin, and Jake; her lifelong best friend, Doreen Raftery; her dear friends, Emily Kaplan and Laura Sherman; and her many St. Michael’s friends.

Due to Covid 19 safety, Patty’s family will celebrate her funeral mass in early Spring of 2021 at St. Michael’s RC Church in Long Branch. Dear Patty, I was talking about Church with coworkers just now and thought about you. I had no idea you had left us a few years ago. We only met a few times but you were always very wise and kind to me. I remember when I was about 19 or 20, I stopped by St. Michael's to ask you for advice. I remember you saying "I'm religious but I'm a realist." That always stuck with me. I hope you are happy wherever you are. I am glad I was fortunate enough to meet you.

So sorry to hear about Patty’s passing, may she rest easy in the arms of the Lord. Always such a caring and giving soul. Even when she was stressed or going crazy with CCD, she always had a smile on.
