Patrick J. Sloan, 81, of Colts Neck passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon at home, surrounded by his family.
Patrick was born and raised in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, NY, where he attended Chelsea High School and studied woodworking and carpentry. His path took an unexpected turn when he joined First Boston corporation after high school, beginning what would become a 30-year career as a trader on Wall Street.
Patrick married the love of his life, Jennifer Guido, in 1969. Over the next 52 years Patrick was a devoted husband and loving father who touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity. Patrick loved to apply the skills he learned at Chelsea in the service of others, regularly spending time on weekends helping others with construction, woodworking, and general home repair and improvement projects. When Patrick wasn’t playing weekend handyman, or enjoying spending time with his family, he loved challenging jigsaw puzzles, watching the boats go by at the Jersey Shore, trying out his latest ideas to beat the house in Atlantic City, and rooting for his beloved Mets and Jets – a true labor of love.
In addition to his loving wife, Patrick is survived by his three children: Scott (wife Maureen) of Berwyn, PA, Jo Ann Thomas (husband Brandon) of Cliffwood Beach, and Jill (partner Bob Turcotte) of Wethersfield, CT; his four grandchildren: Connor, Sydney, Kate and Jake; his brothers Michael Sloan and John Sloan (wife Joan), and sister Josephine Cooney (husband Robert); and finally, his in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved and cherished.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 18th from 9:00-10:30 AM at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A mass of Christian burial will be offered Saturday, September 18th at 11:00 AM at St. Gabriel’s R.C Church, 100 N Main St., Marlboro. Entombment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in Patrick’s honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org
