Susan Baron left a message on April 25, 2009:
Dear Phyl, How ironic that the disease that took your life also gave you the most life you ever lived in the past 5 1/2 years! Now that I'm fighting my own battle with ovarian cancer, I can appreciate your indomitable spirit, courage and positive attitude. I only wish I could be half as strong as you were. This disease has also enabled us to be closer as sisters than ever before in our lives. I fondly recall the fun sibling reunions at your home, the great phone chats and your priceless letters that kept us in touch although I've lived miles away from you in South Florida for over 30 years. And yet, despite the miles, we've always shared a spiritual connection, a bond of friendly rivalry, sisterly competitiveness along with compassion and commiseration, since deep down, we are so much alike. We've led very different lives, but in the same way, with focused passion on our respective goals and aspirations. You were as successful a teacher, housewife and mother as I was a career professional. You will live on in me, in my heart and mind, and I will see your face and hear your voice from the moment I wake up in the morning until I fall asleep at night. And I know that eventually we will be together again. You will be the first one to greet me and ease my passage when I, too, close my eyes for my eternal rest with God - and with Lillian, Dora, Arnold, Cleo and Gus. All my love, your twin sister, Susan Elise Ryave Baron

Phyllis and I worked together a few years ago and she just always absolutely lit up our classroom. She was a wonderful friend and colleague. I am truly sorry for your loss.
