Richard “Alex” Demaree, Born May 19th, 1947, in Long Branch NJ, passed away peacefully at home in West Long Branch on April 13th, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. A man of selfless devotion to his family, friends, and community, Alex spent his life giving his time and skills to those around him.
The oldest son of Dr. Richard Demaree and Barbara Demaree, Alex grew up in West Long Branch and graduated Shore Regional HS in 1965. In 1967 he enlisted in the Navy serving until 1971 when he was honorably discharged as a Second-Class Petty Officer. Upon leaving the Navy he returned home where he began his career at H&L Metal Works in Eatontown. For 55 years he dedicated himself to becoming a true master craftsman. At that same time, he joined Allenhurst Volunteer Fire Department where he served his community for over 50 years.
His volunteering culminated over the last 25 years where his time, skill, and knowledge was given to the development of the youth of Monmouth Council Scouting. He was truly passionate and proud of the accomplished there.
His personal passion, however, was his love for all things fishing. A charter member of the Monmouth Beach Cartoppers, he spent the last 60 years chasing the bite from the Great Lakes to the waters of the Jersey Shore. You could always find him by the water with his coffee and paper.
Alex is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Nancy, his daughter Stacy Benjamin, his son Rich Demaree and wife Chandler, his grandchildren Nick and wife Kayla, Alexia and Zachary, and his siblings Peter Demaree and wife Anne, John Demaree and wife Michele, Jim Demaree and wife Jackie, Christine Yancy and husband Tom, Eric Demaree and wife Lynn.
Alex lived a life in the quiet dignity of relentless work and selfless, open-hearted generosity. He leaves behind a world made better by his presence. He will truly be missed by those who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Monmouth Council Scouts and Allenhurst Volunteer Fire Department.
A Military Funeral Service will be held on Thursday 4/16/26 at 3:00pm, at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
