Ronald J. Dobilas, 81 of Manalapan died on Saturday, January 6th, at Jersey Shore Medical Center.
He served as the Controller of Merrill Lynch in New York for many years before leaving to join the CIBC Wood Gundy firm, as their CFO prior to his retirement. Ron loved working with his colleagues but did not love commuting every day. In his retirement, Ron and his family were proud owners of the P&P Sweet Shop in Holmdel, NJ for 18 years.
Ron enjoyed watching horse racing and had owned four horses over the years. His retirement gift from CIBC Wood Gundy was tickets to the Kentucky Derby. He loved going to Atlantic City with his family as well as playing the Monmouth County golf courses with his sons. He would attend anything his granddaughters were participating in and loved in the summer to get in the pool with the kids. One thing that bothered him was when QVC would ship packages to his wife, and they would stack up on his front porch. Ron had many stories to share about his time in the National Guard and his many travels around the world. He coveted a photo of his trip to Antarctica as one of his prized possessions. Ron was an avid Giants and Rangers fan and spent many years yelling at the television in frustration.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 57 years, Connie Dobilas; three children, Robert and his wife Kendra Dobilas, New Hope, Pa., Russell Dobilas, Manalapan and his fiancé Anna Orzel and Christine and her husband John Susino, Freehold; four granddaughter’s, Grace, Ava, Claire, and Sarah. They will miss his fist bumps, scavenger hunts, and working on puzzles with him.
Ron’s visitation and funeral services will be private as well as the entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum.
