Russell Edward Dronne, of Holmdel passed away on Saturday, January 21st 2012 surrounded by his loving family after a year long struggle with metastatic cancer. He was a graduate of Monsignor Farrell High School in Staten Island, N.Y., the Florida Institute of Technology, and the College of Staten Island. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in science education, and Master's degree in environmental science. Russell lived in Holmdel, N.J. for 25 years, and was an active member of the community, volunteering much of his time as a coach for HYAA and the Holmdel Stallions soccer club. He was also a member of the Holmdel Township Committee, and various environmental organizations. He was especially proud of his activities with Citizens for Informed Land Use (CILU) and Friends of Holmdel Open Space (FOHOS) to save the 400 acre Chase Tract from turning into a housing development. Russell began his career as a high school science teacher at Monsignor Farrell High School, but later moved to the insurance industry. He was President of the Reginald J. Devine Agency; a safety engineer for Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. and Continental and CNA Insurance Co. He was a loss control safety consultant at Chubb Insurance Co. for the past 15 years. Russell was predeceased by his mother Rita, and by his brother Kevin. In addition to his wonderful wife of 30 years, Maureen, he is survived by his four children: Patrick, Michael, Maggie, and Kelly; their dog Dusty; his sister, Mary Ellen Cook of Pequannock; and his father Howard of Staten Island, N.Y. Visitation will be at the Holmdel Funeral Home — 26 South Holmdel Rd., Holmdel, N.J. on Tuesday, January 24th from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A Funeral mass will be offered on Wednesday January 25th at 9:15 AM at St. Catharine's R.C. Church, 108 Middletown Rd., Holmdel. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Friends of Holmdel Open Space, 12 Indian Creek Rd., Holmdel, NJ 07733.

Who can forget driving in the 62 blue Chevy with stick shift on the column? Or playing football outside in the street using Mary Ellen as a blocker? When I heard tonight, so many memories came back.
