Sending thoughts of sympathy and comfort to all of Ruth's loved ones. Though perhaps I only met Ruth when I was very young (being distantly related), I have known some of the family and in working on the family tree, recognize quite a few names. Again, my deepest condolences to all. Susan Hamilton Helber

I will always remember a visit that Ruthie & Lorraine made to my Nana when she lived in the apartment on Roseville Avenue. It was in the " good old days ", when you (Ruthie) and Nana could share a cigarette or two and the only one to register a complaint was Lorraine about how she was going to have to air out her clothes when she got home. It was decided right then and there that you should both have another cigarette for the road, even though Ruthie was the only one going back to the Shore with Lorraine. Let us not forget Ruthie's expressive eyes!!! Although it is so sad for those of us left here, I'm sure you are enjoying one hell of a good time being back with the multitudes who ever passed through the doors at 425 Sylvania Avenue, not the least of which was Honsie!! With love, Andy Hudson

Aunt Ruthie, I called you just two weeks ago about how to make apple dandys. You said, "Oh I don't remember how they were made only that we sold 3 for 25 cents at Hendricks (Irv's Big Wheel)Flea market in Red Bank, only Margie would know that". But you came up with a recipe in a pinch anyway. You always had a smile and a funny story to tell me! I will miss you so much and hearing your voice on the phone. I wish I had come up more often. You know I always had a fetish about fixing your lights. I miss you, I love you always, Douglas

What words could possibly say all that I need to say. Aunt Ruth you were one of a kind. You were so full of fun and wit. I don't know if anyone is left that can carry on the King Tut language the way you did with my Mom. We are all going to miss you terribly. I know you are up there now telling stories with my mother. Always...

Letter to Ruth: Ruth, thanks for all the wonderful memorie. Gene and I always looked forward to visiting you. I remember spending quite a few New Years Eve's with you. The big thing right after midnight was to make certain we all ate the right food for "Good Luck" for the year. I also remember your thoughts about your children. When I was about four or five years old, my ball had gotten stuck very high up in a tree. Aunt Ruthie was there wearing a long, long, very long matching 1970's pantsuit that made her look as if she were seven feet tall...to me. So naturally, I asked her if she would get my ball out of the tree....she laughed and reminded me of that day every time I saw her. I will really miss her style.

Bobby Laytons mom Ruth, what a nice lady. She always made me laugh a lot whenever I would visit the Layton compound. Her stories about her early days were very funny. She also was very loving and kind to my daughter, Linda when she rented the cozy third floor apartment. Thank you Ruth for giving me my good friend Bob. We will never forget you.

My Aunt Ruthie was smart, funny, talented and very special to me and my family. She was part of my life from the very first day. I spent many summer days of my childhood at her house and loved every minute. I'll never forget her quick wit and great stories, especially those that included her years growing up with my mother. I remember the good times singing around a piano or organ with Aunt Ruthie playing. All of my favorite memories of Aunt Ruthie are times full of fun and laughter and I can still hear her saying "come ovo". I can't believe I won't be able to anymore. I will never forget my Aunt Ruthie. Love, Laraine

To my Aunt Ruthie, The entertaining, family storyteller from whom I learned so much about our family's history. There was no one else like you. The one who succeeded in teaching me how to drive my stick shift VW Bug. She pretended her hands were my feet and moved them as if they were on the pedals and finally...my dull little light bulb went off and I was driving down the road without all the bucking. I will treasure the memories of the road-trips we made to South Carolina in recent years and the fun we had. You will be forever in my heart and will be kept alive in the stories we will all continue to tell. "Missing you like a front tooth." Your loving niece, Lisa
Linda left a message on January 26, 2012:
I've known Ruth pretty much my whole life. When I was 19, I had the privilege of living in the apartment above her house. A few times a week, I would go downstairs and spend some time with her and Lorraine. I always had a great time with her, and would end up spending hours there because we'd be so involved in conversation that I'd lose track of time. I loved sitting on the front porch with her, talking about the trees in the yard, the new porch that Bob, Ron, and Robyn had built for her... She left a lasting impression both my fiance and myself, and we will miss her.

She so enjoyed being with you and I know the memories you created will be with her always. love and miss you already. Shirley

Almost forgot. She always talked about what wonderful children she had and how lucky she was to have them in her life. She truly appreciated everything they'd done for her around the house to make it a safer, happier place for her to live, and would always tell me that, that she had the "best kids in the world."

It won't be the same when I come down for visits, but I am glad you are now resting in peace and without pain. Love, Maureen
