David Reinauer left a message on October 27, 2019:
Sal became my best friend when he moved from Boonton to Colts Neck. We walked to the bus every day, rode motorcycles, and laughed. He impacted my life in the important years. Although we lost touch after 14 years of age, he was and will always be a intrical part of my life. He randomly crossed my mind tonight, and I found this obituary. To the Sgroi's, my heart saddened and at a loss for you. I can only pray God has offered some sort of peace to all. DWR

Michele Green left a message on January 30, 2019:
Dear Sgroi family, I want to express my sincere sympathy, sorrow, and prayers to all of you. I have known Sal for over 20 years. We used to be very close and then lost touch for a bit. I would see him every now and then. He reached out to me about 6 or 7 months ago for help. He saw on my Facebook that I was clean and sober now for a while, and was asking me for my help and guidance. I spoke to him almost every day about his depression and fears about being clean and how he would deal with his depression clean. I truly tried to help him, and I believe that he wanted to be clean, but was scared of feeling the depression. I lost touch with him when he started dating this last girl, but did speak with him right before he went into rehab. I know you most likely already know this, but I want you to know, Sal really wanted to get clean in his mind. I just don't think feeling made it to his heart because of his depression. I know that all of you tried and tried and tried... so many times to help him. I don't know the correct words, but when you are fighting those demons in your head and can't get it straight in your mind because of depression and bi-polar, you just don't know where to turn except to drugs. I wish he had found his way to get help sooner, but he didn't. He is now at peace with God. I hope that all of you are able to breathe now, and maybe find some peace for yourselves. I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling, but my thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of you! May God watch over all of you! Blessings to all of you, AMEN
