It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Strozak, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who passed away on December 5, 2024, in Shrewsbury, NJ, at the age of 83.
Stephen was born on August 5, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY, before moving to Aberdeen, NJ where he spent the majority of his life. A proud Navy veteran, Stephen served his country with honor and carried the discipline and integrity from that time throughout his life. After his service, he worked as a printer, contributing his skills to the industry with the same dedication, precision, and care he gave to everything he did. A longtime parishioner of St. Benedict Church, Stephen was a man of strong faith. His deep belief in God and his devotion to the church community were integral to who he was.
Stephen’s greatest joy was always his family. He is survived by his loving wife, MaryEllen Strozak, daughters Anne Strozak and Alexis Horbatt (Strozak), son in law Billy, grandsons William and Charles, and sisters Patricia, Claire (& husband Buddy), Marilyn, and Ellen. He was also a cherished uncle to Stephanie, Claire, Stephen, Michael, and John. Stephen was predeceased by his brother Victor and his nephew Gerard.
Stephen found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in his love for gardening, where he could nurture and grow his own little pieces of nature. He had a tremendous green thumb and his battles defending his vegetable garden against the groundhogs were legendary. He also enjoyed reading, particularly history and novels. A lifelong baseball fan, Stephen had a deep love for the game, which he enjoyed watching and discussing with anyone who was also a NY Yankees fan.
Big Steve had the unique ability to always make those around him feel valued and cherished. His unwavering devotion to his loved ones, his sense of humor, and mischievous spirit made him a joy to be around. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A viewing will be held at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel on Tuesday December 10th 4-7pm and a mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 am Wednesday December 11th at St Benedict Roman Catholic Church 165 Bethany Road Holmdel, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Salesian Missions https://salesianmissions.org/
Stephen’s legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished, and he will be deeply missed.
