Susan C. Varanelli, 77, of Lakewood, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank.  Born in Newark, NJ; Susan lived in West Orange and then Brick before residing in Lakewood for the past 32 years.

Susan was retired from RWJBarnabas Health in Oceanport where she worked in the Accounts Payable Department.  In her free time, she was an active member with the Elks in Brick.  Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her nickname, “Cookie,” will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.   Susan loved the beach and being by the water. Later in life, she developed an interest in working out at the gym and participating in water aerobics.  Susan loved hosting a holiday which also came with many courses. When she came to your house she always had “lots” of bags of stuff she was bringing over.  Making other people happy was what made her feel fulfilled.

Predeceased by her parents, Lester and Helen Patterson, brother, Terry Patterson and her late husbands, Raymond Intrabartolo and Nicholas Varanelli.  Susan is survived by her children, Kevin (Elia) Intrabartolo and Kimberly (Robert) McGillen, grandchildren, Raymond Intrabartolo and Karly McGillen, brother Peter Patterson (Priscilla Hayes, )  sister, Pamela (Jim) Blind and sister in law Edie Patterson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am, Monday, March 30, 2026, at St. Dominic’s RC Church, 250 Old SquanRoad, Brick, NJ 08724.

Honoring Susan’s wishes, there will be no visitation.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s name may be made to an organization of the donors choice.
