Ms. Syers was born in New York City on May 30, 1941 and grew up in Flatbush, NY. When she was sixteen years old, she met the love of her life, Donald J Syers, at a Valentine’s Dance at St. John’s University, NY. Both shared a love of dancing, adventure, and hard work! She attained a BS in Mathematics from St. John’s University, worked as an underwriter, then as a High School Math teacher in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Suzanne was very successful in everything she tried. One summer, while on vacation from teaching high school math in NY she went to work running her husband’s small business, Hurricane Fence . Sue and Don worked side by side for over 50 years and Hurricane Fence became one of the leaders in its industry. Suzanne also enjoyed volunteering for the American Cancer Society as well as the March of Dimes. She was awarded Woman of the Year from the March of Dimes! In retirement, she would travel back and forth to her homes in Sanibel Island, Florida and Upper Captiva, Florida where she enjoyed good friends, shelling, and counting dolphins.
