Sylvia C. Newberg, 86, of West Long Branch, passed away peacefully February 5th. Born in Jersey City and lived in West Long Branch since 1961.
She is survived by two daughters, Ellen Rosen and son-in-law Jeffrey of Flemington, NJ; Emily Siddiqui and son-in-law Asif of Laytonsville, MD; and son Arthur and daughter-in-law May of Las Vegas, NV. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Sarah, Sami, Elizabeth and Amy.
Mrs. Newberg was an Inventory Management Specialist at Fort Monmouth for 15 years. During her employment, she received many recognitions and awards. She received an Associate Arts Degree from Brookdale Community College. She was a member of the National Council of Jewish Women, where she taught countless students, to help them gain citizenship. She was a member of the Sisterhood, Congregation Brothers of Israel, and spent many years active with the youth of the congregation, as well as the interests of her children. She was always active and involved with the interests of her grandchildren.
She was the proprietor and operator of Sylvia’s Inches Aweigh, an establishment in Shrewsbury that provided tanning, exercise and nail salon services for seven years. She was an avid gardener and reader. She enjoyed line dancing and developed many friendships over the years. She loved the long-standing friendships she developed in Aruba, her favorite island, and was fond of crocheting colorful scarves for them and her family. She had a quick smile and was always ready to engage with people.
Loved by all her grandchildren, husband, children and friends; she will be missed.
Graveside Service Tuesday, February 8th at 1:30 pm at Brothers of Israel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
