Thomas Allen Gawley, 78, of Marlboro passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 21st, surrounded by his family.
Tommy was born to Mabel and John Gawley in East Orange, NJ and raised in Union, NJ. Tom attended Union Middle School and High School where he played baseball, football and excelled at basketball. When not playing sports he enjoyed a social, a dance or untold adventures with his school buddies. Tommy received numerous awards for sports, outstanding citizenship and leadership during his grade school years.
Thomas attended the Newark College of Engineering where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. Tom was a member of the Chi Epsilon Fraternity and played on the NCE basketball team. Upon graduation Thomas took a job at TAMS and shortly thereafter earned his Professional Engineering License. Tom had a distinguished career as Professional Engineer working for over 40 years in Newark, NJ and New York City designing the traffic and light rail transportation systems that we use today in the NY metropolitan area.
Thomas also loved working with his hands and could always be found building things and setting bricks at home on Saturday or visiting with his family on any given Sunday.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 20 years, Renate and his children Andreas and Judy Gawley.
Thomas is survived by his children Damon Gawley and his wife Sandra of Verona, Jeffrey Gawley of Marlboro, and Eric Gawley of Marlboro; his sisters Joyce Walsack and Janice Peterson; and his beloved grandchildren Thomas, Lauren, Angel, Caitlyn, Carley, Kevin and Jessie.
Visitation will be Monday, February 27th from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ 07733. A service of life celebration will be offered during the wake at 7:00PM.
