William R. Neil, Sr., age 84, of Holmdel, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, at Bayshore Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. A man of great character, compassion, and laughter, Bill leaves behind a legacy of kindness, and love that touched the lives of everyone he encountered.
Born on September 14, 1940, in Jersey City, NJ, Bill was the son of William and Anna Neil. He grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep sense of community and values that guided him throughout his life. After graduating from Dickinson High School, Bill joined the US Navy from 1958-1964 where he was stationed on the U.S.S Rooks in Boston, MA. He went on to become an Ink Chemist in Newark, NJ as a career where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. His passion for problem solving, history and worthless information made us laugh and learn.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bill was deeply committed to his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Patricia Neil for 58 years, and together they raised a family built on love, respect, and laughter. As a father, he was a steady guide and a source of unwavering support for his children.
Surviving is his loving wife, his children Patti and her wife Susan Neil, Barbara and her husband Philip Esposito, Jr., grandchildren Daniel, Megan, Ryan, Kailey, and Michael Cozzi his son-in-law. All of whom shared many cherished moments and will continue to honor his memory. He is predeceased by his children, Veronica Cozzi and William R Neil, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17th from 10am – 1pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road. A funeral home service will be offered at 1pm, followed by entombment at Holmdel Cemetery & Mausoleum, Holmdel. The family invites all those who knew him to join in remembering this remarkable man.
